Algarve Property Sales Increase As Sterling Bounces Back

Friday, July 9th, 2010

Algarve Property Sales News: The current sterling position vs the Euro (1.20 in June 10) has sparked a dramatic rise in demand for property on the Algarve with the number of Brits searching online for foreign property doubling in the last year according to leading online property portal Primelocation International. Rival portal Rightmove has also seen a 60% annual increase in searches with Portugal among others seeing the biggest benefits.

Enquiries were 95% higher in March 2010 than a year earlier, with the top three locations recording increases of 108%, 153% and 105% respectively. Searches also increased on a monthly basis for most countries, with Bulgaria’s 11% decline the only fall out of the top ten most popular destinations.

“Pent up demand now appears to be on the brink of converting into sales,” said Ann Wright, international development manager of Primelocation International. “Several signs are now indicating that the economy may have escaped a double dip and be stabilising in earnest and potential buyers are picking up this optimism.”

Portugal Property Market: Investor Demand Rising

Friday, July 9th, 2010

Portugal Property News: The number of overseas property investors in the Portuguese real estate market is beginning to rise in line with the country’s economic recovery, it has been claimed. Overseas Property Professional (OPP) has reported that foreign buyers are returning to the market and replacing the influx of distressed bargain hunters that emerged last year.

Both developers and agents are reporting the rise, with the move being cited as an example of the returning confidence to the European destination. Typically the amount of money that investors are putting down as a deposit has gone up. “This is money that was sitting in buyers’ bank accounts but now they have a better sense of where the market is going they are ready to spend. People are a lot more quality-conscious and the developers that have built high-spec are the ones that are selling.” (more…)

THE ALGARVE PROPERTY MARKET: EAST vs WEST

Friday, January 8th, 2010

Algarve Property News. What does the Western & Eastern Algarve have to attract buyers? The Western Algarve is a rugged coastline, more exposed to the Atlantic headwinds than the other Algarve regions and so more weathered. This is where you find the dramatic sandstone cliffs, frequently used in Algarve literature and some of Europe’s most pristine and secluded bays, beaches and coves. It offers excellent facilities for water sports, golf and some historic towns (Lagos and Silves for example) but there are also more lively cities to enjoy (Albufeira and Portimao). The Algarve Formula One Racetrack has recently been built close to Portimao and now hosts many annual events and Lagos is very popular for its excellent mix of new meets old. (more…)
